Hiking Trails
Forest trails with
varying degrees of difficulty lead from the resort.
One pleasant loop takes visitors up to a huge first growth Western Red
Cedar. Further along, the next loop intersects with logging roads which
meander up the valley and around the island.
Tours
Greene Point Rapids: The “neighbourhood tour”. This is a quick outing in which you can see an ancient pictograph, seals basking on the rocks, and the local rapids, which are a favourite playground for seals. $25 each based on demand.
East Thurlow Island Circumnavigation: Explore the diverse marine environment that surrounds the Thurlow Islands. On this trip we will encounter fast moving tidal water, majestic fjords, and the stunning and powerful Johnstone Strait. There are good opportunities to encounter whales, porpoises, dolphins, and sea lions on this trip. $50 each based on demand.
Cordero Channel Rapids Wildlife Trip: This option adds an excursion onto the East Thurlow Island Circumnavigation tour to see some of the fastest moving tidal water in the world. The Dent Rapids are home to the infamous “Devils Hole”, an impressive sight when the current is running. The area is a favourite fishing spot for bald eagles, and it is common to see large gatherings of them perched above the turbulent water in search of a fresh salmon dinner. $100 each based on demand.
Slow Down Don't do anything.
Sit on the patio, watching the current flow past. Explore the beach, or play a game of bocce ball or frisbee on the open field. |
